Description:  

The duration of the course is 2 years. While the Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology is counted as the first year, the second year comprises of several course units. Presently 9 course units have been included in the degree programme

These course units are as follows: Theoretical 4 course units are compulsory. Archaeological Conservation (compulsory) 3 Epigraphy and Paleography Part I and II(compulsory) 3 Ancient Technology (compulsory) 3 Museology (not compulsory) 3 Historical Geography (not compulsory) 3 Practical Excavation Techniques (compulsory) 3 Admission Criteria (a) passed with First or Second Class Honours the Special Degree Examination or the archaeology Examination in the relevant or a related subject or has an equivalent qualification of a recognized University and (b) passed the Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology Examination with a merrit Dissertation

The title of a candidates proposed M.Sc dissertation should be handed in within 6 months of registering for the degree programme

The dissertation should be handed in at the very latest within 6 months of handing in the title of the thesis. The maximum period of time allocated for completion of the dissertation is one year

If for some reason the candidate is unable to submit the dissertation within the allotted period of time, an extension of a further 6 months may be granted with special permission from the PGIAR Board of Studies and the Board of Management

Dissertations submitted for the M.A., M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D degrees should be certified by the candidates supervisor as being based on original research and suitable for examination. This certificate should be submitted as a part of the dissertation manuscript

The examination result of the thesis will be given to candidates who hand over their thesis within 6 months of registering the topic

Before the results are released, the supervisor should certify that the dissertation is fit for examination. In addition, the candidate has to face an oral examination of his/her thesis research
